Slate Retail REIT is a leading investor in U.S. commercial real estate, generating growth for unitholders by acquiring well-positioned grocery-anchored retail plazas and bringing our value-added skills to bear.

Slate entered this sector after the financial crisis, seeing an opportunity to acquire well performing real estate with high quality tenants at depressed valuations. Our view was that, even in a weaker economy and amid competition from e-commerce, Americans would rely on neighbourhood shopping centres for daily needs. We found real value, with properties selling for significantly less than replacement cost and peak value. 


Today, the U.S. economy has recovered, but we continue to find attractive opportunities. Once we own the malls, we roll up our sleeves and find ways to increase rents, improve lease terms and drive occupancy.

Slate Retail REIT now owns over 85 properties totaling approximately 11.0 million square feet. Our portfolio is continually in excess of 95 per cent occupancy and our anchor tenants are among the largest grocery retailers in the country.

  • Kmart Redevelopment: 90,000 sf box was demised for Ross Dress for Less, Burkes Outlet, PetSmart and Rack Room Shoes

  • Complete Redevelopment: development of a 100,000 sf store, backfill existing Kroger store, façade renovation, common area upgrades

  • Projected Completion: Q1 2019


       County Line Plaza, Philadelphia PA

  • Anchor Repositioning: SRT finalized a 15 year lease with The Edge Fitness Clubs for 36,000 sf

  • Projected Completion: Q2 2018

  • Rent increase: 47%
